Honey & Coconut Oil Facial Treatment

Like most busy mums, I like to treat myself to a pampering session every now and then. Unfortunately, my skin is highly sensitive to many products and I suffer from a rather irritating cosmetic condition called Seborrhoeic Dermatitis. For the last 5 years, I’ve been using exclusively natural and organic products which are gentler on my skin.

One of my best discoveries has been this extremely simple cleansing and moisturising routine which I do twice daily. All you need are these three simple ingredients instead:

1 jar of raw, unpasteurised honey
1 tub of virgin coconut oil
Mineral water (or any chlorine-free/filtered water)

When it’s time to cleanse, wet your face and mix about one-third of a teaspoon of honey with roughly the same amount of water. Apply to your face and it should glide on with no stickiness. If not, you haven’t added quite enough water.

Rinse your face and pat dry. Take a pea-sized lump of coconut oil (it’s only oily when stored above 24C) and apply sparingly all over your face. That’s it, you’re done! Your skin will feel lovely and soft, if you suffer from dry patches then doing this regularly should eliminate them.

Honey is naturally anti-bacterial and anti-fungal and is full of incredible enzymes to protect and nourish your skin. Coconut oil makes for a gentle, anti-inflammatory moisturiser suitable for all skin types.

For an intensive treatment, leave the honey on your face for up to three hours before rinsing off. If you really want to indulge, substitute Tahitian Monoi Oil for the coconut oil – it has the same fantastic benefits and you’ll smell amazing!

I was inspired by Aubrey’s “Treating seborrheic dermatitis with raw honey and virgin coconut oil” article but it’s a great routine for everyone.
